As a member of the music ministry, you’ll be a part of a group of ordinary people worshiping an extraordinary God. You’ll be part of a community that passionately leads others with the gifts that this extraordinary God has given them.
“So what are you expecting of me?”
This is a common question asked by those who are thinking of joining one of our ensembles.
There are three simple expectations.
Be open to something new.
We’re all on a journey, and the First Baptist music community is living life together. As God leads, we are ready to follow wherever that path takes us. Please be on time and ready to go at the designated rehearsal time. Fully engage in what is happening around you. Be ready to grow with the group.
The Worship Choir is the core of our leadership for our blended service. No audition is required to be part of this ensemble and reading music is not mandatory. A love for God and a heart for worship are the most important requirements. Come experience our worship service that we simply call “rehearsal.” You will truly be renewed in the middle of the week while connecting with other fellow worshipers who will impact your life and challenge you to grow in your walk with Christ.
The Worship Choir meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 PM. Not only leading in worship each week on Sunday mornings, this group prepares for special events at Christmas and Easter as well as other presentations throughout the year.
The Worship Team is a small ensemble that leads in weekly worship for the blended service. Members of the Worship Team are active members of the Worship Choir. A true servant’s heart and willingness to yield to one another are required. If you have an ability to blend with other voices and learn music quickly, this ensemble might be of interest to you. Most importantly, a continued development of God’s leadership in their lives must be evident. See Gary Anthony for more information.
If God has blessed you with the gift of instrumental music, there is no higher calling than leading God’s people in worship each week! If you are in high school or are older, you’ll play regularly for the 9:30 a.m. service. This ensemble plays for congregational worship as well as special pieces for preludes and offertories. A minimum of two years playing experience is recommended. Please contact the music office at 254-773-6866 to discuss qualifications.
If you are an adult, love to sing, laugh, and have great times of fellowship, and also have a desire to minister in the local community, this ensemble may be for you. This adult choir was originally organized in 1985 and has been ministering for almost 40 years in local nursing homes and retirement clubs, participating in the annual Texas Baptist Everlasting Praise Music Festival, and participating in other mission events. Music reading is not required. All that is needed are a servant spirit and a desire to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
This 13-member ensemble plays for worship and special events throughout the year using a five-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a two-octave set of Malmark hand chimes. Because of the nature of playing handbells, membership is limited, though substitutes are often needed. If you are interested in playing handbells, please contact the music ministry office and let us know of your desire to ring.
